Virginia Gastroenterology Institute is led by Pramod Malik, MD, FACG, FASGE, AGAF, CPI. He was the first Certified Principal Investigator in Hampton Roads and one of the few in the country at that time in 2008 who was certified by the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP). He has conducted scores of multi-center trials as a Principal Investigator since 2002. Dr. Malik is active in the local, regional, and national societies such as American College of Gastroenterology, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Gastroenterology Association. Dr. Malik has also served on the Research Committee of American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and is the immediate Past President of Virginia Gastroenterological Society.

Dr. Rajiv Nanavaty is a Board-Certified Neurologist who leads the neurology trials. He has been involved in various Neurology related clinical trials including Multiple Sclerosis, CVA, Migraines, and Epilepsy since his residency in 1998. He is a member of American Academy of Neurology and Virginia Neurological Society.

Our Principal Investigators are known for their high caliber work, research experience, community reputations, and significant patient database that ensures timely and easily met enrollment goals and successfully completed clinical trials. We have successfully enrolled and completed clinical trials on Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), Gastroparesis, bleeding peptic ulcer, Hepatitis C, Colonoscopy Preparation, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s Disease, Camera pill or capsule colonoscopy, as well as multi-center trials on quality improvement projects in colonoscopy.

The physicians draw referrals from the Hampton Roads/Tidewater Area. This population base of greater than 2 million includes Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton, and Newport News. Patients are also referred to our sites from North Carolina. This area encompasses 10 hospitals and a nationally renowned academic center at the Eastern Virginia Medical School/Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine.
